Karnataka Lingayat Education Society was founded in the year 1916 by a group of seven self-less and enthusiastic young men devoted to the cause of education and the upliftment of the community, educationally and socially. The seven founder members namely M.R. Sakhare, S. S. Basavanal, B. S. Hanchinal, H. F. Kattimani, B. B. Mamadapur, R. R. Chikodi and V. V. Patil, made a beginning with the starting of G. A. High School, Belagavi in 1916 as the first institution. Since then, the society has grown from strength to strength and at present, it is running about 271 educational institutions, in the various faculties like Arts, Science, Commerce, Medicine, Engineering, Dental, Pharmacy, Law, Nursing, Ayurved, Management Studies, B.C.A. and also Hospital and Medical Research center at Belagavi, Post-graduate courses and diploma courses in Medical Science, Dental Science and Pharmaceutical Science, are run at Belagavi and Hubli, Post-Graduate courses in Engineering are run at B.V.B. college of Engineering and Technology at Hubli and K.L.E. Society’s K.L.E’s M.S. Sheshagiri College of Engineering and Technology, Belagavi. A separate well equipped Hospital and Medical Research Center of National Repute located in Belagavi is a pride of K.L.E. Society and North Karnataka.

The Society also runs kindergarten, nursery, primary and secondary schools and pre-university colleges, job-oriented courses and a printing press of its own. Another feather in the cap of the K.L.E. Society is the establishment of K.L.E. University on 13th April 2006, as a result Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and the Institute of Dental Sciences, Belagavi are its constituent colleges. Our Hon’ble Chairman Dr. Prabhakar B. Kore is the Chancellor of the K.L.E. University, Belagavi & K.L.E Technical University, Hubbali.

All these institutions are well equipped and housed in the society’s own buildings. 1,25,000 students are studying and 16,000 staff are serving in all these institutions.
